After I posted yesterday that I was headed out to count breaths and look
into that power aide stuff I have out there.....I never made it to the
barn. Such is the way my days (and nights) go. Always seems to be one
thing after the other. And I am running today, already late. But she
seemed fine last night. Ate on her on and followed me to the front
pasture last night, no problem.
I am thinking she was just hot and uncomfortable. I didn't notice the
nostrils flaring this morning, but I didn't have time to go round up a
clock with a second hand to count the breaths. I didn't get the
unsettling "vibe" last night or this morning.
Also no coyotes screaming in the night. The way she was hanging back at
the barn for several nights, seemingly not wanting to go to the front
pasture, felt to me like she knew there was danger and didn't want to
go. Last night she went right on, and there was no sounds of coyotes
last night either.
I'm keeping a close eye on her, she is my lovey, the leader of the pack,
the most wonderful girl in the world. When I brought these Pyr puppies
in here a few weeks ago, all the other pacas were freaking out, I'm sure
thinking mom had surely lost her mind and was actually putting a
predator in their pasture *with* them! They would not even come over
to the shady woods where the fan and the soakings take place because
that is where the puppies are penned up. Even tho the puppies were just
as calm as they could be (they are fantastic puppies - I am really
loving these little guys). But Allie, much too cool and collected to
let a couple little whippersnappers put her off was the one to introduce
herself to them and check them out, and even more impressive let them
check her out. She just stood her ground very calmly; such a lady. The
others watched and learned from her. She is the Grand Dame here.
AllieP is her name, my first; an orphan (mom died giving birth to her)
and I was her only companion for several months before I brought in
Charlie Brown for her. We romped and played; I learned to pronk like a
champ <g>, I always hand fed her, carried her around in my car. She is
9 1/2 yo now and very sedate, nothing much ruffles her feathers. When
she got her eye scratched out last summer she took the treatment like
the royalty she is. The vet was totally impressed not only with her
healing but with her willingness to stand and let the vet cut out the
torn inner lid.
OK, I'll stop now, I just can't say enough about her. I know you all
have one you feel the same way about. I just stand in awe of this
magnificant creature. I am not ready to let her go.
