Re: [AlpacaTalk] BEW

Because for someone to sit around and chide others for breeding lines that they believe or claim to know throws CA, but not educate others about those lines is reprehensible.

I do know first hand of one sire that has thrown CA, last year, in fact. I do not have that line in my herd, thankfully. And now I know that I will never add that line to my breeding program.

Yes, we can look up info on CA, we can learn the science behind it. But I cannot imagine a way to learn what lines have thrown CA, certainly no one registers CA crias, they rarely live. I doubt if they'd be registered even if they did have a partial and did survive. And certainly that info is not recorded at ARI.

So how are we to know about CA lines in alpacas? Are big farms A, B, and C going to tell us about the CA crias from their sires?

It seems that those with the info ought to share it. Not doing so is as negligent as breeding to those lines not knowing.

And Heather, I can just imagine the hell you would raise if one of YOUR studs were named. True or false?

So, what makes you think some one should go out on a limb to name names?

I have a BEW, she has blue eyes, and is solid white.  Very fine fiber.  She will NEVER be bred.  Her dam very likely will NEVER be bred, as she carries the BEW gene.  I know the stud she was bred to at North Americas largest alpaca Mill. For my $65,000 I paid to the Mill, for four bred females, one had a female cria at side, I have two that I can breed. One of those four died.
