[AlpacaTalk] Hartman Alpaca Sale in Nebraska
<<< I have asked the auctioneer (via a e-mail that was never answered
and via a registered
letter that was never picked up), for my money and my alpacas back. I
am not out to
tell anyone untruths about this or any other firm. I just want people
to know what my
experience was so that nobody else will be hurt in the same manner.
Call me stupid,
but I was totally unaware that this venue would be so poorly attended
that they would actually
sell my alpacas for as low as $10
I have too much on my plate running our ranch, and dealing with our empty
Big Box Store in Texas to spend my time daily on this. I just care
about people being hurt
and alpacas being traded around like they were sports cards.

You keep talking Elizabeth! This is a common tactic. I've BTDT with an
adoption agency involving the adoption of my now 2 1/2 yo dd from
Vitenam (yes for anyone keeping track I left for VN to pick her up the
month after my husband.....
The agency was simply horrible in so many ways. I was also supposed to
be picking up my 4yo dd at the same time. Had her in my custody, spent
that entire winter in VietNam (while my animals and farm lanquished and
suffered) trying to get her out of the country. In the end my agency
screwed everything up and I was told to return her to the orphanage and
expect to come back in 6 mos to get her. There's not words to describe
the inconvenience/
words to describe the heartbreak all around when that precious 4yo child
had to be returned to the orphanage...
worry about her consumed me every single night as I worked stateside to
get her home. 9 long months I worked to get her home. I left no stone
unturned. She could not be found; I was stonewalled; I was told 5
different stories as to what had happened to her; I could not accept a
single one as the truth and kept pushing. Yes, I talked to everyone
everywhere about this agency. They threatened me with all kinds of
things, including of course lawsuits, and including threatening to turn
me over to DFACS (Child Protective Services) - Huh!? AND the VietNam
gov't - Huh ?!. In my grief and as you state all that is required to
settle things after a death - my mother's and my husband's and with a
tiny baby to boot, fighting lawsuits was not on the top of my list to
tackle. But I was encouraged by many in the international adoption
world to keep talking. I got quite an education. I was told to make
sure my homeowner's insurance policy covered "libel". I took out an
Umbrella policy, made sure it included that.....and I kept talking.
They kept threatening. I laughed at them - to their face - and dared
them to sue me. You see when someone sues you *then* it all becomes
public record. They don't want that. Trust me - they don't want that.
Plus as long as you stick to the facts of what happened to you it is NOT
libel.
Keep talking. You don't need to pay a lawyer to respond to their
letter. Ignore it, just as they have yours. Or invite them to sue you.
I eventually put this particular adoption agency out of business. Their
doors are now closed. Of course having a lawyer write them telling
them to respond to your requests if they want you to stop talking would
be a nice touch, Perhaps one of the attorneys working with you on the
other matters would be willing to write such a letter for you.
Good luck, glad to hear you got one of your girls back safely. Thanks
for letting us know.
Warmly, Janice
