[AlpacaTalk] Re: Alpaca Chutes & Meds

Hi, we purchased a chute a few years ago and don't know how we got along without it. We use it for meds, shots, nails, you name it. Once you get the hang of it, it is great and makes things a lot easier. Our chute came in handy recently when one of our females was at another farm for breeding and some how got a broken right shoulder, she went to Cornell University for surgery and had 3 screws and some wires put in the shoulder. Anyway, she had her leg taped to her body for about 2 months, we had to take the binding off and exercise it for 15 minutes twice a day. The minute we would touch her (she was a bottle fed baby, so she was always a lover and is now, but it took her a while to get back since she was in a lot of pain) The chute with belly straps was the only way we could exercise her leg without her cushing. It paid for it's self then. But we find it very handy and don't reqret buying it. Ours is also has wheels that you can put on to move it. That comes in handy should another farm borrow it or we need to move it. We use the liquid Safe Guard we get from PBS Animal Supply. If you call there and ask for JP, she knows all about the alpaca meds and will help you with any questions you have. Hope this helps. Marlynn
