Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: I'm in trouble again. Surprise!
Well John,
Having spoken to this person not too long ago regarding a few topics
that were making a big buzz in the industry, I was left with the
feeling that my thoughts, concerns, ideas, etc., were not really
considered. It was very much a political call, to try to sway me to
"the other side," and to also gently explain why my ideas wouldn't
work, or how I've misunderstood something.
It was really the same old story. How AOBA is different from any
other animal breeder's org, show group, or marketing org. I'm sure
AOBA is uniquely unique. ;>
I was left with the very strong feeling that I should not ask
questions, at least not the questions I was asking. I should not talk
about the issues that we are talking about. I should just let them do
their job and wait and see what they can do. Basically, I was told to
sit down and shut up, in a very gracious manner to be sure.
The trouble is, when these people call you on the phone, they have a
very well rehearsed line to spin. To be honest, I am not well
rehearsed. Their tactics make me on edge, I feel pressured, I don't
have a list of points at the ready... and basically all I can do is
agree with them because they are so skilled at that kind of thing.
They're so convincing and everything they say makes sense at the
time, but why do I feel so confused, then? After the call ends, after
I relax a bit, all of my points and rebuts come to mind but by then
it's too late.
So I abhor the telephone. I refuse to take those kinds of calls. It's
not fair and I won't play that game. Give me time to collect my
thoughts, look over documents and records, etc., exchange written
conversation. Let me be on more equal ground.
You know?
