Hi Janice,

There is a disorder in livestock called polioencephalomalacia or PEM and it is different from the polio that we humans get vaccinated for. It is reversable if caught early, but can also cause death. If you want more info, you can search the word and come up with lots of information.

It is caused by a disruption of vitamin B1 and certain enzymes and sulfur can cause it. Here is an excellent webpage with info from Purdue

Polio is a bacterial infection, I'm pretty sure, maybe viral, can't
really remember. What could that have to do with feeding changes and/or
digestive upsets? This is scary.
