RE: [AlpacaTalk] Let them eat cake.
Having been on the board when AAWW produced Alpacapalooza last year, I can
assure you that most of the fees went to the facility, renting of the
panels, ribbons, judges expenses, etc., and the affiliate made very little
(as a percentage of the take). This year a lot of shows are nervous because
if the slower economy causes people to not show, and thus there are fewer
than projected entries, then the facility rentals alone will put the shows
in the red. Many affiliates do not have enough cushion in their accounts to
handle a show that is much at all in the red. I've seen a lot of shows
already cancel this year because it was cheaper to lose their deposits than
to put on the show at a bigger loss.

How much does of those fees go directly to the meeting and barn facility
holding the show (and not AOBA)? and how much go to the speakers for the
educational seminars? How much goes to the purchase of supplies such as
ribbons and printed material?

Shows that charge $225-275 per stall and $50-60 per entry are
definitely making a killing.
And PS. That lovely herdsire catalog has males born all the way back to
1993. Those are generally imports, though.
