AOBA receives a $6 recording fee for every paid halter or fleece entry,
or spin-off entry, which isn't even an AOBA certified event. They
receive $3 for every 2 oz sample show, and all auxiliary other types of
fleece shows such as hand spun skeins, fiber arts, etc., etc., which
also are not AOBA certified events.
Small fees, true. But, shows set their fees on a model set by AOBA
Nationals. Thankfully, most shows cost far less to attend than
nationals.
So one might ask, where does AOBA figure into it, if their recording
fees are so small??? The very fact that they are AOBA sanctioned and
certified shows pretty much is the complete answer. All one has to do
is look at those entry and stalling fees for other alpaca shows, llama
shows, sheep shows... it is very clear that the fees do not need to be
so darned high! It's the same alpacas at ALSA shows, sometimes even the
same judges! And yes, sometimes even the same venues as AOBA certified
shows.
