[AlpacaTalk] Discussion is what it's called!
Let me just say this and please everyone read it well.
This is a discussion. People have differing views. People speak and
write about topics that concern them, disturb them, make them angry.
It's our right to do that. It's our right to bring things to light that
maybe others hadn't noticed or didn't learn about.
To tell me to stop "complaining" is about as rude as one can get. Sure,
my post about Nationals stalling fees may have been sarcastic, but it
doesn't change the fact that AOBA certified show stalling and entry
fees are way out of line with other fleece bearing animal shows, and
alpaca shows certified by other judging organizations, in the US and
Canada. I haven't looked at Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, etc
so I can't comment and don't grill me on that, please.
To say that my dissatisfaction with the fee structure of AOBA, an
association that claims to be working for all of its members, isn't
sour grapes as much as the fact that it's just plain wrong. And when
something is wrong, it is the responsibility of the people to do
something about it. That's how our country came into being, if I recall
what I've read. :)
In Australia, they have two Alpaca breeders and owners associations,
and two registries. Does anyone know why? It was because many members
of the first organization were greatly dissatisfied with being
marginalized by the heavy hitters and they organized a new one. They
just got fed up with the BS. Oh, by the way, a former pres of that
first Australian org, is now on the board of AOBA. How does that make
everyone feel?
And to those who say that this sort of discussion might drive new
investors away from the industry, I say they have a right to know!
Would you rather have them sink their life savings into this biz and
find out later and become angry and disillusioned?
See, I'm doing my little part to change the way things are, to make
things better, by spreading the word that things need to be fixed, cuz
it's surely broke right now!
