[AlpacaTalk] Selling alpacas
I just received a phone call from Mr. Patrick, and apparently I have
been laboring under some inaccurate information about his services.
The information I received that he pays $.50 on the dollar and then
re-sells alpacas was incorrect. He told me that he sells alpacas on
consignment for owners. He asks the owner to accept a wholesale price.
The owner sets the price, he tells me. That price that the buyer pays
is a retail price.
Mentoring, farm visits to help design barns and fencing, free
breedings... all included in the retail sales price. As it is with our
farm, and pretty much every farm I know of. To me, that's part of a
sale. Yes, it is worth something, it does have value. Mr. Patrick
itemizes all of those breedings and services and concludes that he
makes very little on each sale.
I want $XXXXX for sale of my alpaca, I include 2 breedings, I include
the mentoring, I include a halter and lead, I include the farm visits,
the barn and fencing discussions.
practice. That is all included in my service. I also pay transporter
fees for sales over $10,000 for non-local sales. If it's close enough,
we'll transport the alpaca ourselves, in the van or trailer.
So my apologies are extended to Mr. Patrick and anyone who read my
previous post.
Sincerely,
Heather
