[AlpacaTalk] Re: Live Twins!!! Born 40 hours apart!!!

Thanks Everyone for your replies!

I fed him indoors yesterday afternoon and last night and he gained
4/10 lb... not bad! He was so much stronger this morning that I
brought him back to the farm and spent the WHOLE day trying to
convince him that I am not his mom and that nursing is better than a
bottle. We put him in an area with his dam and 2 potential fosters.
I fed him every 1 1/2 - 2 hours by bottle but then left after feeding
so as not to confuse him. We put amniotic fluid on both babies AND
put goats milk (what we are feeding the little guy) on the face of
the other baby AND cut fiber off each boy and attached it to the bum
of the other baby with burrs (worked great!). Also rubbed poop from
baby #2 on Baby #1. Gave dam homeopathics, flower remedies AND herbs
to ease stress and reintro. Yeaterday she bit him and chased him
off. Today, at LEAST....she was kissing him and smelling his bum and
belly. Nothing further but she doesn't seem to mind if he hangs out
nearby. The other mom's are happy to sniff him and are kind but
nothing more. He is sleeping in a limited, safe area in the barn
with this group tonight (good weather).

Tomorrow, we are hoping to teach him where alpaca milk comes from on
one of the dams who will not kick him if we restrain her to let him
nurse. He DID manage to look up under one of the other dams tonight
just before I left. Maybe he will get the idea is left to his own
devices...

Anyways - thanks for all the advice and support. I'll let you all
know how he does. He's a strong little guy!

It will be really interesting to see the DNA results for sure!
