Re: [AlpacaTalk] live twins
Try putting a cria coat on the one she is nursing for a day or two to get his sent on it, then put it on the one she isn't accepting. If you get two coats for them make sure they are the same color as they do see color. Also try keeping the 3 of them together in a smaller area, if the mom will tolerate it. He may then be able to sneak at night if he's a smart little guy.
Your best bet is confusing her to the point of acceptance! Your challenge may be that they are not the same color so she may figure it out.
You might also try rubbing some scent on both of the crias so they smell alike. Or, it sounds gross, but rub the accepted babies butt (or find his beans) and transfer that sent to the other ones back side.
Just some ideas worth trying??

congratulations Jen on your live twins - that really is a miracle! - my pretty black girl aborted black twins this summer - my first experience with twins, and they were born about 24 hours apart.
i wish you all good luck with getting the second one back to the mom, or at least a foster mom.
Please let us know how the miracle babies are doing.
