Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: dust lice treatment
Like usually is on the rump of the alpaca, but it can be in other places as well. They look like little white things on the fiber, close to the skin. If you have recently shorn, you should be able to see them easily on the cut side of the fiber. They have this kind of glue substance that sticks the nits on to the hairs.

<<We have this stuff called Citricidal (Nutirbiotic Co.) that is highly
concentrated Grapefruit Seed Extract. GSE is anti-parasitic, anti-fungal,
anti-bacterial, anti-everything. .. You will need to check out the website

brand will give different results depending on quality and strength.

I have used Nutribiotic' s GSE for decades for many things and love it,
but never thought of using it in this way. What a great idea; thanks
for sharing!
Also, DE could be dusted in the stalls and I have on occasion dusted it
into their dirt bath areas as a preventative, but haven't done it in
years.
How do you recognize that you have a lice problem?
Isn't injectable invermec/dectomax also a treatment for biting lice? I
seem to recall reading this in Dr Evans manual (which btw I which
*somebody* would tell him an index in his books would make them
infinitely more useful). If they are getting this every 4-6 wks for
menigeal worm prevention, they should be covered for mites as well.
Thanks,
Janice
