[AlpacaTalk] Just sayin' "Hiya" - new to group
I'd like to introduce myself and my partner. I'm Jonas and she's Sharon. We have been thinking about buying a farm to raise alpacas. We have been reading, researching, and taking classes/conferences in alpaca raising. We are about a year away from 'buying the farm' and buying our first alpaca. I have a medical background and have been reading a lot of the medical/vet aspects of these wonderful beasts of not so much burden. I had my first experience w/alpacas over 20 years ago when I was working at a zoo as a zookeeper prior to going into school. I fell in love w/them from that first beginning.
My partner has a background in early childhood eduction. I figure she's up for the challenge, too. lol
I introduced her to alpacas over 2 years ago and we have been talking about this idea ever since.
We have been visiting farms in CT, VT, and next in NH. Getting lots of ideas.
Some of bed and breakfasts too so we are close to the animals. We like that.
I was waiting for the DUMMY'S book for raising alpacas but I think I'll have to start a overall basic library for education and everyday workings of ranching/farming, building/barn, field, fencing, vet care, crias, etc - etc - all that is talked about on this great group.
I look forward to hearing/reading about all your experiences.
