Re: [AlpacaTalk] Horses and Alpacas?
Tracy,
I have both horses and alpacas and I agree with Nancy about never having them together. A horse is a powerful animal and could kill with one kick. As far as beautiful green pastures I am in Middle Tennessee also and with this lack of rain going on its third year it is going to be hard having that right now. Maybe the rain will be coming our way this coming year and we will get our pastures and hay field back again.

Tracy,
I have both horses and alpacas. I would never put a horse with an alpaca. The main reason is the horses hoofs, if the horse should kick out they would do a lot of damage to the alpaca. My animals share a common fence line. They seem to enjoy each others company as they are sometimes nose to nose. I know a lot of people are going to tell me not to let them do that but I have never had a problem with this.
As far as pastures go I do not really have an answer since I have not put my alpacas where my horses have been. A horse will go any place he feels like it so that could be a problem with cleaning up the pastures.
