[AlpacaTalk] Re:Short Bio
Hi Jim and Gail:
Wow - how impressive that you did all that homework. I
wish we had. I think it would have helped a lot. But
we were surrounded by some good mentors so we did jump
in. It took us time to market and to sell. We had a 5
year plan of growing the herd and then selling. But in
the early years I too realised I knew nothing
absolutely nothing about marketing alpacas, and though
friends of mine (not in the alpaca business) gave me
books to learn from - it was greek to me! So I started
going to all the alpaca marketing seminars I could go
to, and there are some really good people doing
marketing seminars. And I kept a book of marketing
ideas, and started to implement them. Some of the best
seminars were at the Nationals and at our affiliate -
Empire Alpacas. That's what I would suggest. And you
need to explore all the different marketing
techniques, internet (alpacanation and more), direct
mailings, shows, auctions, and local events. I would
be glad to correspond with you in emails and give you
some ideas that we implemented. Also the names of some
of the people you should look at for seminars. Hope it
helps.
