Heidi: How true. You will find very few ARI registered females at cheap prices.
And I did not find two at cheap prices.
Even though two of my first two breeding girls were so called pet quality, they were still breeders, so thier price was more than 10K but way less than the show quality females that were selling in 2000 for over 20K.
I have never seen an individual breeding female sell for less than 10K.
The breeders that I know have set a standard. 1k minimum for a lone gelding, but give him away with a sale of females,
At least 10K for a single female, but discount her if they buy more than one.
I have a female with a lame leg which got that way from an accident. She has had two crias since, but I am retiring her
because she has had seven good crias and perhaps her lame leg will bother her if she continues to have crias.
I will never sell her even with other females as a companion. Someone might breed her, and I could not allow that.

One other thing you could consider is non-registered females, or females from
Canada. That says nothing bad about their quality - some are as good or
better than the average female in the US, but as Elwin said, you aren't going to
find ARI registered females capable of breeding for non-breeder prices. Under
10K yes, but in the 1K range, no.
