Re: [Alpacasite] Re: $205,000 Female
Hello all,
Extreme high prices is a reflection of marketing as much as it is quality of
animal. It takes place in most immature industries. Great for those
involved but of little consequence for those of us who have been around for
a while (it does however, give us all something to talk about). It is an
indicator of an industry's growth & maturation bringing it to a cross roads
where branching off will begin to occur. Those who can most afford to will
become breeding farms, putting dollars into research, using genetic
selection and strict culling and record keeping. Others will become fiber
production farms using cost reduction methods maintaining large herds. They
will use the breeding farm's expertise and top breeding animals. Still
other's will want to remain pet and hobby farms while working outside of the
farm. Those that choose a less defined farm (trying to do it all) will have
a difficult road ahead. Keep a good business plan in hand, reevaluate and
adjust every few years. I see no reason why we won't all still be hear
talking ,all things alpaca, 25 plus years from now.
Take care,
Patricia Houde
