[Alpacasite] Re: difference in pattern??

Well, from my understanding, pinto is very large blocks of color on
white. Appaloosa is spotted, having many small spots all over. Here
are the AOBA show color definitions for patterned alpacas:

Pattern: displays a secondary distinct color patch of color at the
skin, providing that and single solid patch of color shall be greater
than 6 inches in any direction. The primary color shall not be gray.

Pinto: an alpaca that exibits 2 distinct colors, one of which is
white. .....the majority of the blanket/saddle is a second color that
is medium fawn or darker

Fancy: blanket fiber that exhibits 3 or more distinct colors of which
the pirmary color is not gray

Appaloosa: blanket fiber that exhibits 6 or more spots of distinct
secondary color of which the primary color is not gray

Roan: colored alpaca with white fibers interspersed on the prime
blanket fleece.

Some people many call a pinto a fancy though it may be tecnically
wrong.
So, there are the technical color definitions according to AOBA show
rules. I hope this clarifies things!
