[Alpacasite] Re: Clostridium prevalence

Necropsy doesn't necessarily show clostridium. About 5 years ago, we lost 3 crias to what we felt was clostridium. Necropsies were done at CSU and photos taken of the inflamed colon, etc. They did extensive culturing and NEVER were able to culture out clostridium, even though we all felt that was the culprit. Death came within 3 days of the onset and all the symptoms were classic. We later found out that the well water (un-chlorinated) in our heated "old-style" waterers was contaminated, causing the onset of diarrhea , then the clostridium rapidly took over in spite of every treatment our vet and CSU staff knew. Finding out nothing definitive was frustrating (and expensive!)
