Re: [AlpacaTalk] Training the berserk male alpaca

My experience with a berserk male was in 2009, so it may be possible that there have been advances in understanding and training, but at that time I did contact MM. She offered little in the way of advice, although one of her assistants agreed the likelihood of him injuring someone was very real and he was a liability to our farm.
Our case was far from rare. Novice owners who were abandoned by the sellers.  If nothing else, it taught me "Buyer Beware" and to stand behind any sales we make if we want to have credibility or respect from anyone... buyers and/sellers alike.

In my experiences we have only heard of one male that would actually attack new animals as well as any new human entering the pen, including the vet. This animal was manhandled violently rather than getting professional advice. I do not know what ever happened to him other than he was isolated from any of the rest of the herd, which I think only worsened the problem. I took a weekend coarse with Marty McGee Bennet and she would be the one I would recommend reaching out to for your challenge. Marty is world known for handling all types of camelids and travels all over the world training people and their animals. My feeling is that she is the expert and will provide the best professional help.
This is my first post, so I hope this information reaches you.
