Subject: Re: [AlpacaTalk] Dogs and Alpacas
I have a shepard that is in his pen beside the alpaca pen. The alpacas only get in the pen to exercise and graze before going to their paddocks. However, the dog will run along the fence and bark at them. They will stay away from them. I do have a BEW that is deaf and she will come up the fence and they will nose each other and the dog dont do anything. I have a little terrier/chow/who knows what mix and he will come to the pens with me and the alpacas just walk around him and dont run from him at all. He is an old dog, but has always been a mild dog and has never been forceful with any animal other than another dog he thought was bothering the shepard.
I would trust him totally with my alpacas, but not the shepard.
