Heather I have a herd of 30 now.I was small to start, went bigger, then down sized when the economy crashed. My aunt used to take our yarn and make products for me to sell.Other years I just sold the fiber.I am looking at the Co-ops for this year.I have bought products to resell from Wendy her on this list,Kathryn processed some fleece to yarn(she is here on list).I have bought from Inca Treasures,AndeanArt,Peruvian Link ,Purely Alpacas(now Choice),Alpaca Collections,Wholesale Alpaca.I sold out of almost everything this Fall at events.I have roving left, yarn, mens gloves, and 3 hats.It was my first time with an actual booth and I am working toward opening a store here on the farm. ***No the one I seen is not electric..Does not have a plug,it is just a reg bucket that is insulated. You put water in and it is supposed to keep the water from freezing for about 8 hours. It' s on page 132 of the new 2013 catalog labeled as a water bucket cozy.Jeffers WAC-W1 $41.95***
The larger the mass of water the slower it will freeze. In the hard winter I set up a 35 gal barrel inside the horse shelter that only has tarps on the sides (we have no enclosed barns). I use bungy cords to wrap old pieces of thick carpet around the barrel. The combination of the larger mass of water, plus out of the wind, plus the extra layer tied around the barrel keeps the water from freezing. If we have a long extended spell of below freezing both day and night I have to add the electrical water heater thing to keep it from freezing. But if it is only freezing at night the wrapped barrel does the trick. Then, for their comfort and enjoyment, we haul 5 gal buckets of hot water from the bathtub to top off their water The alpacas and dogs drink out of 5 gal buckets; we just dump those and bring warm water from the house each morning and evening for them. But the horses drink too much for us to do that for them 2x a day! Janice in NW GA
