Re: [AlpacaTalk] Staggering Alpaca

You could be dealing with so many diffrent diseases.Sometimes its hard to narrow it down to one thing. You should have the vet back out fast. You need Thiamine thiamine and more thiamine.it will not hurt it can only help.Ivamec should be given every 28-30 days just going over one week can put your herd at risk.I'm not a vet just an animal lover.Good luck!

Subject: [AlpacaTalk] Staggering Alpaca

Hey All,

I need some help please. About 4 weeks ago I had a 11 mo female alpaca that started to stagger around. Her hind quarters were mostly affected. She sorta walked like she was drunk, but she is very alert and eats and drinks and poops although that can be hard for her with her hind quarter problems. Okay I did immediately have the vet out and we threw everything at her. Meningeal wormer, bacterial etc. Oh yeah I use injectable ivomec. every 4 to 5 weeks all year long. She has not gotten worse and has had some improvement. Now her mother is having the same symptoms. HELP!!!!

Jim
