[AlpacaTalk] Leg problem

My matron (and dear pet) Allie, about 10/11yrs old now, has had an odd
problem twice in the past month.

She is having some sort of problem with a front leg in that she can
barely use it....temporarily. I notice that when she puts the foot
down only the tips of her toes contact the ground. She can get around,
but very reluctantly and gingerly. I did not see it the first time.
My dd came and told me that Allie was having a problem with her leg, but
by the time I got out there she was walking normally.
So we thought she just had something like a sweet gum ball (which we
have tons of) stuck in her toes and she managed to get it out.

The other morning however I observed it myself. At first I feared it
was broken or perhaps sprained from the way she was carrying it -
stiffly, and the way the toes were barely contacting the ground....and
pointed straight down; and her reluctance to walk.

I often have leg cramps at night that force me to get out of the bed and
try to put weight on my leg to ease the cramp; sometimes I can barely
force my heel to the floor and it is rather hard to get the cramp or
spasm or whatever it is to let go enough for me to put my foot all the
way on the floor. As I watched my girl it looked to me like she was
having the same problem. It lasted for maybe 15-20 min; I can't
really say as I had to go do some other things after observing her for a
while. We checked her toes and feet and they were normal.
By the time I got back over to her pasture she was walking normally and
has every day since.

What say ye? Anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts?
Janice
