Hi Pia and Catherine,
I am no longer in California----and I have retired from practice. May I
suggest that you call your local County Bar Association and ask who is a
member of their Agricultural Practice Section of the local bar. Those folks
meet monthly and they discuss issues or attend classes about that area of
practice. Folks who are members of that Agricultural part of the bar will
have experience with live stock. When you talk to one of those members---or
the president/chair of that particular section, they will know who in that
group is camelid savvy and they will happily give you those names.
Any licensed attorney who is in practice dealing with Ag issues will have a
background that will be good for camelids---they are not treated that
differently by the law than other types of livestock. Any differences that
do exist are documented in the law and may be researched. It is a
specialized part of practice---but not THAT specialized. You don't need to
pay an extra premium for camelid or ag experience, but you do need to locate
someone whose area of practice includes agricultural issues.

Hi all, I hope this is an appropriate post to be putting out there, and if
not I apologize!
I was wondering if anyone out there is an alpaca breeder *and* an attorney
who might be able to help us in some contractual problems we are involved
in. Or if not, if anyone knows a respectiable, honest attorney who is
familiar with our American alpaca business who may be able to guide us in
solving our predicament. I would guess this person would have to be licensed
to practice in Ohio, since that is where we live. At this point we need
advice and perhaps a letter or two written,and any leads would be
