I couldn't agree more. I think some may be regional, too. In this part of the world, the economy is super sucky. In my county - and surrounding - it's not good --- and it's very rural, though only an hour from 3 decent sized cities. Businesses have closed all over the place and there isn't much money flowing for anything.  So, an animal is worth what you can get. The other thing is that when you read the market groups, people are needing to get out of the business for financial reasons. As one friend said, comes a time when you don't worry so much about recouping what you've put in, but just simply cutting your losses. Yes, the fire sales aren't helping, but we need to realize that many people are desperate to sell....and from what I understand, alpacas are being abandoned out of sheer desperation.....people are finding themselves in situations they never thought they'd be in.....

(re quote from Pia's email below: )   No animal is worth any more than what it will sell for an auction where willing buyers meet willing sellers.  Get used to the new valuation of alpacas.  Just because you might find someone willing to pay more in a private sale doesn't mean the animal is objectively worth that private sale price.  The market varies and values may be higher tomorrow than they are today – or they may go lower yet.

….Now how to sell an animal worth 4 times that with the way that these "fire sale" auctions are ruining the market... :-(
