RE: [AlpacaTalk] Another bottle baby this year--and FTT crias...

Allison,

A friend of mine had a small male- weighed 40 lbs at one year but had beautiful fleece, also.  She had him checked out and treated for low thyroid and was giving him a growth hormone for awhile.  Sadly, he got sick and became debilitated and even a blood transfusion couldn’t save him.

Someone wrote in one time about small alpacas and mentioned the bloodline which turned out to be the SAME sire of her little boy.  I think some of these traits are inherited, but would know where to start in trying to fix them.

I hope yours is able to thrive at some point.  My friend had really hoped to have a nice herdsire with great bloodlines.  Instead she ended up with huge vet bills and no alpaca.  I felt terrible for her and he was a much loved boy.
