[AlpacaTalk] RE: Alpaca treats

<<<My guys like any kind of berry. So there are very few wild berries
here any more. They ate my blueberry bush and seem a little ticked that
it is gone. There is one pear tree in the pasture that they keep a good
eye on. I think they have a contest to see who can get to the pear
first! I have not had a pear off that tree in the 5 years the alpacas
have been here. Funny thing is if I buy a pear at the store and bring it
home, they really don't like it. They love apples and take them from my
hand. They will also eat carrots that my aunt has lovingly sliced up for
them but they won't eat them from me.

Darlene - I love the name of your farm!
I had to put electric wire across my blueberry field - the grass is
lusher there and the alpacas and horses just won't stay out. Then the
horses figured out how to go around the outer edge of the property, thru
the woods and up to the back side of the blueberry field - the little
dickens. So now I have to run a hot wire across the back side as
well. Soon my whole property will just be a maze of hot wire! the
horses weren't eating the blueberry bushes, just breaking them off with
their big feet and rubbing on them.....heck they took out a 2yo pear
tree last year using it for a scratching post. Never thought about the
alpacas eating the entire bush - but I am sure they would given half a
chance!
Yesterday enjoying the glorious freedom, one of the alpacas was seen
delicately eating an apple blossom. Oh dear, now they cannot come
out. I can't hot wire off those particular trees and now that they are
discovered I would have no apples this year if pacas are allowed out
again :-(. I really hate it, so much good nutrition going to waste in
the yard! But can't have them stripping my apple trees!
