RE: [AlpacaTalk] Pasture Vac

Everyone has their priorities and reasons for what they will pay high dollars for.  The clincher for me was that I could use this vac to clean out the chicken coops and the goat barn AND the alpaca barn and pastures.  Now, another reason that is very important to me, regardless of brand , is that I am not spreading any parasites by raking it …….everything is getting sucked up!

I like that it is lightweight enough to pull by hand, too.  Sometimes, in close quarters, it is hard to position it close enough to the coop and by pulling it by hand, I can get it very close.  My dh is fabricating a wagon type handle on it for me.

Also, time is a big factor for us.  Our kids are in HS and between school work, sports, community service, etc……..there are not lots of excess hours to spend poop raking.  I realize one after noon that we had vacuumed the barns and coops – emptied the contents into the compost pile three times and I think the whole time, all totaled was three hours.  We have never accomplished that much in one afternoon, much less three hours.

For us, time is money, too…….so it was worth it.  (Besides, it is a business expense!)

I have been planning to build one from scratch for years now. We have an AgriFab wich works great in the summer, but in the wet season, the feed tube clogs almost immediately. Poor design on the thing. Another pasture vac with the same design (not greystone) is sold by various alpaca breeders, but it costs more than the AgriFab and obviously doesn't woirk any better because of that design.

The Greystone, now, is sold with a 4 stroke engine, and is supposed to be much more reliable and, um, not burn out within a month. :) But, they are way too expensive for my taste. Think how many hours you can have of poop scooping if you pay laborers with that money!
