[AlpacaTalk] RE: female acting funny
<<< Hi Janice,
After breeding, females will stay cushed for some time, so that's
normal. And it does seem to indicate that she was not pregnant.
However, you may get a cria next October/November! :)>>>
I am thinking (hoping) I separated them before "it" happened!
Especially judging by how upset they both were - esp him - at being
separated and then trying to continue thru the fence. Surely they did
not complete the job!?
I was hoping I remembered from the last time we discussed this that
there is a point close to delivery when her prog drops (or rises?) and
she may not spit him off, but still be preg?
If she is truly not preg I am not going to continue to lock her up in
the tiny barn every night......concrete floor - not a pleasant place to
have to spend the night, night after night. I tried spreading hay but
she poops and pees in there every night and I got tired of throwing out
so much good hay. Now I have a small blanket in there for her to lay on
which she has been doing. I am putting her in the barn at night while
the Pyr pups are out because they are still so young and while
trustworthy with the alpacas, I have no idea how they would react to a
newborn, esp if there were some kind of problem. I don't want her to
give birth out in the pasture early in the morning before I get out
there with the dogs still out. However if she is not preg, there is no
reason to make her stay in the unnatural environment of the tiny
barn........
making cria terribly depressed, there is just no company for her :-(.
If not preg, I don't care if cria continues to steal a little snack now
and then, just so they can be together again, they are quite attached to
one another, always side by side. This separation has been really hard
for the little one, just breaking my heart.
Janice
