[AlpacaTalk] Payment for American alpaca fiber
The Alpaca Blanket Project (ABP) will begin paying for fiber beginning this next season. Our business plan calls for completion of the inventory phase prior to paying for fiber; however, we feel that the alpaca community deserves some financial return now, rather than waiting one more year for the ABP to complete this phase. Because much of next season's fiber will go into inventory, payment will be somewhat less that is anticipated the following season.
Thanks to the 300+ farms that have brought the ABP to this turning point!! We delivered 1,600 pounds of grade 3 fiber to Pendleton Woolen Mills about three weeks ago. Pendleton just let us know that the finish date for this run of blankets is December 4. Supporters of the project may pre-order blankets at this time and we plan on shipping December 5th to all farms who have prepaid.
Again, thanks to all our supporters. Last season's experimental run of blankets were "ok", but nothing to write home about. The ABP has made changes in our sorting process, and Pendleton has made three major and several minor changes in their process. This year's blankets will be softer, thicker and have a nicer finished edge. We are using a herringbone pattern for this run. Colors will be beige and bay-black.
Check out our website for details on payment of fiber. The next website update should be complete within two weeks. At that time, there will be access to the ABP contract for payment for your fiber. This is our dream come true, a 100% American, 100% natural product from American alpacas and to bring value to American alpaca fiber.
