Check the stats between DE and zeolite blends......

This link is not working, no website by this name can be found by yahoo
search or google. I too am interested to know more, altho in my case it
is chicken odor I am trying to control. A month or so ago I started an
aggressive campaign to rid us of flies and keep the chicken coop/pen
dryer and less stinky. So we started daily cleaning the pen (where the
fowl spend the night - they are free in pasture all day) and then
spreading DE pretty thickly everywhere - even on top of things where
they roost. It did help a lot with drying things up and I believe
decreased odor somewhat. But the 50# bag that I thought would last the
rest of my life (when we were just top dressing feed with it) all of a
sudden was gone. We used it up very quickly. The fly population did
decrease *in* the pen, but they were just as bad everywhere else around it.

So glad that this topic came up as I have been trying to think about
what to use in the chicken pen that is cheaper to dry it up and absorb
odors. As I was reading some info on a website this weekend about DE I
realized that using it in wet/damp spots was defeating the purpose.
Once it is wet/damp it loses its "sharpness" and becomes totally
ineffective, so I want to find something cheaper for the odor/dampness
problems in that pen. Plus soon the flies will be gone - yippee and I
don't need to continue to waste my DE in this manner.

More info about zeolite please and the Dry Den product that Heather
mentioned.
And what about lime? Wouldn't that be too "burning" to the chicken's
feet? If not the alpacas as well?

Thanks! Janice - 10" of rain this weekend, more coming today :-(
