Hello Laura...This is our protocol also. I understand that there are conditions where antibiotics in cria are needed and was concerned that newer folks reading the post it might be taken quite differently. We suffered under the idea that mothers milk protected until weaning, but as experience took over came to understand that that is not the case. No losses in the learning but it was a learning.
I think it would be helpful to point out that IgG is an important factor in this also. Under 200 that cria is destined for early problems mom or no mom. 400-800 marginal and would be best to have a plasma transfer. After 800 out of the woods but would like to see them much higher (in the thousands). Thank you for your insights, Michael
