Re: [AlpacaTalk] Dog Attack, any advice on Suri alpacas as replacements?
I prefer Suris and my spouse prefers Huacayas, so our herd is now 1/2 of
each. The Suris stay cooler in the warmer weather than the Huacayas but
other than that, they are no different other than the fleece. We currently
have a very nice Huacaya girl cria that has Suri in her background and I just
adore her, her fleece is really nice. I don't think we would have any
problem selling her (we are keeping her) but everyone is right, it is harder
to market Suris out of Huacayas than the other way around and a Suri who
produces Huacayas is harder to market also. If you are planning on keeping
them there should be no problem and of course at the shows the judges are not
aware of their background so the Huacayas produced from Suris tend to do
better, their fleece is generally nicer.
