[AlpacaTalk] Re: Mineral
I use Dr. Evan's mineral blend, available at Blue Seal. It was expensive ($70), but I've still got my 1st bag 18m. later with 5-8 animals. I would say that any blend made specifically for llamas and alpacas in your area (due to regional mineral differences) would be fine, however, I bought 2 females (nursing moms) from a farm that used a different blend and a week after they got here 1 was off and had a high fever. A mineral panel showed both of them severely deficient in several minerals (Cal, Mag and Phos). When I checked the label of the blend the other farm was using I saw that it didn't have nearly the amount of minerals recommended, though it had other good things like probiotics. The Dr. Evans field manual (any alpaca owner's bible) provides a list of daily recommended amounts, so whatever blend you find, compare them. I think you'd be pretty safe with Stillwater, Dr. Pough or Dr. Evans' blends, but I've only used Evans.
Good luck,
