I can say, based on experience, that budgets reviewed and approved as
recently as November look like so much hot air about now. I call it
the "fantasy budget'.

"Yeah, ok, that's what the fantasy budget said, but what are we going
to do now?"

The economic landscape is changing by the day. While I hope those
under my charge are not subject to layoff or furlough, there are no
guarantees. The "new" position that was budgeted for ain't gonna'
happen, I can tell you that.

In my family I have two sons that have been laid off, a brother and
sister in law that will probably be getting laid off, and several
other extended family members that are quite vulnerable. I fully
expect to see my wife and I furloughed at least a day a month (5%
wage reduction anyone?). I have other colleagues that have been "made
redundant" or are quite likely soon to be so.

These are tough times. All may not be a conspiracy.
