[AlpacaTalk] RE: [Membership] Affiliate Congress mail from Bonnie
Good evening Ian,
I understand that this is not BOD, but personal opinion, but I'm watching
and I don't understand this 'wild" and "outside of its charter' type action
by individuals who were interested in the AC either. While I personally
thought the idea of an AC is a worthwhile one.it may be that the charter
needed a tighter draft to stop this sort of outside action.and keep it
acting in a manner that was within its charter. Surely dissolving the old
one does not prevent the BOD from redrafting, redirecting and then
assembling a new AC that is better constrained to act within its charter
documents? It was a useful communication tool and could have other value
down the line.
IT is just this sort of wild running all over action that is going to be bad
for our industry. Moving around like an amoeba on a phagocyte is not the
way to get things done.and that is what appears to be starting to happen. I
personally don't see value in splintering the industry.it is better served
by working through its government, not outside of it. Anarchy rarely is a
good state of affairs.
Let us hope that calmer responses ensue. I'm not against a discussion of
the dissolution of the AC.there are questions I probably would like to ask.
But this does not seem to me to be the way to do it.

Subject: [Membership] Affiliate Congress mail from Bonnie
Folks,
I tried the email response button but could not get any action, hence this
new email.
In contributing to this discussion I would like to stress that I am not
talking for, or representing, the Board of AOBA in any way at all.
I would raise some points that warrant, I think, some consideration:
I don't understand how something disbanded can continue to operate under the
same name when it no longer exists. The AC was disbanded (its charter to
operate was removed in fact) because the Board made that decision in what it
considered as the best interests of the organization.
The suggestions Bonnie is seeking are far outside the original charter of
the AC and, to me as an alpaca industry stakeholder like all of you, appear
to be groundwork for the development of a new, competing industry body.
Nothing that the AC can do is outside the scope and ambit of AOBA with its
new vision statement and its commitment to lead the industry. One has to ask
can we either afford two organizations delivering basically the same
services and do we need it?
I am wondering just what it was that the AC actually delivered to the
membership of AOBA in the light of the original charter? As a member with a
valid email and mailing address I cannot recall anything that was advisory
in nature to the AOBA Board.
I am also aware of the Bylaws requirements for the establishment of an
advisory committee which the AC was not in compliance with which raises the
question of whether to enforce the Bylaws or let one committee out of all
the committees AOBA has, work alone and outside the rules.
I too would like to see what the membership thinks the function and role of
an advisory committee would be, how it could be structured and its mode of
operation - it is not sufficient to throw up ideas as a wishlist when the
implementation of those wishes may not be practical or possible, so please
give some serious and considered thought to the issues that are important to
you.
Thanks for listening/reading!
Regards to all.
