I believe the needle size is determined by the viscosity of the medication to be injected. I've been told the reason to use 18 gauge needles for Ivomec is that Ivo is fairly thick (and me experience with it does bear out that definition -- it's quite oily and thick compared wth other injectibles. THe needle size isn't determinative of where the injection. Needle LENGTH is more important when considering injection location. Shorter needles are good for sub-Q injections and longer needles are better for IM injections. JUDITH KORFF, LADYSONG FARM, RANDOLPH, NY
