Re: [AlpacaTalk] Problem with Newborn Cria

Steve,
One thing that has not been addressed so far is that your cria is lying on
her side. My vet, who stays up to date and goes to lots of camelid
conferences, is adamant about not allowing weak animals to stay in this
position. She wants us to get them sternal because she says it affects
their ability to breathe. So try and get that baby in a cushed position
and then keep her that way as much as possible even if you have to prop her
up with hay bales or quilts. If you have to take her to the vet hospital,
try and get someone to ride with you that can hold her in a sternal
position. Best wishes to you with this girl.
