Re: [AlpacaTalk] 6.8 lb cria 4 days past due Help!
Hi Wendy,
I have no experience with tiny cria at all. But you mentioned your baby seems to eat less and less, and thought I'd share what I have noticed today. My 3 days old baby girl was getting less active this afternoon, and as I was watching her, she was not nursing for 2-3 hours, then I noticed that even mom took her to the poop pile encouraging her, she only urinated, and could not produce any feces. After couple of her tries I decided to give her an enema. She produced a nice bunch of feces, and she started to nurse big time in about 2-3 minutes, and energy came with it. ;o)
Just make sure that what goes in comes out. If it doesn't, even the healthiest, strongest cria could go down in a very short time.
I hope your baby will get stronger soon. ;o)

I took my baby to my vet first thing after he arrived. My vet could
only tell me to put him on a heating pad and feed him goats milk, but
not to have any hope for him to live, and she said good luck. That is
when I came here to the people that I know from experience can really
help me with their experience. Thank you everybody for all of the
information you have given me. I have my boy in a playpen on a
heating pad feeding him cow closotrum with a little yogurt in it. I
take him to visit with mom every couple of hours and to milk her. I
am getting worried he does not seem to want to eat as much as before.
I am hoping it is only because he is tired. He is sleeping good now.
He might not turn out to be an award winning sire, but he already has
my heart. I was suprised that he is a fawn color because both parents
are white. Pray for us. Thank you all.
