[AlpacaTalk] Re: Ticks?
"Well, this year is a first for us, in the past we've had an
occasional tick on the alpacas but this
year, they're loaded down in the armpit and groin area."
The best remedy I know of for ticks is chickens or guineas. We have
had them here for 5-6 years and I haven't seen a tick on my animals -
pets or otherwise - in 3 years. They won't eat them off the animals,
of course :)
Also - you can add food grade Ditomaceous Earth to their dust bath or
dust it directly onto their affected areas. It will kill the adult
ticks in 24-72 hours. As an alternative to chickens you can buy
beneficial parasitic nematodes to spray on your lawn/ pasture to kill
the tick eggs. You can google it or check with your local farm and
garden store. Check out the info on the site below about flea and tick
control....
