RE: [AlpacaTalk] Let's recognize WHOSE? Shenanigans
Ladies,
I am still collecting information both from AOBA and from outside resources
on what the subsidiary does and how it affects the overall operations of
AOBA.that is why I am neither supporting nor accusing over its existence. I
would say that communications about it were somewhat less crystal "loud and
clear", than in hindsight it might have been wise or pleasant to make it.
That being said, the actual causes and effects of the new entity are not
totally understood by me in detail at this point so I am reserving comment
until I can do my own research and take a look at the laws which govern AOBA
in its home state. This is not a simple accounting issue or merely
understood by resort to the IRS's codes and regs. It has to be viewed in
context which means with a full understanding of the problems from which it
arose and the laws which govern it both at state and federal levels.
Since that is the case I have made and will make no accusations here. So, I
am very politely asking that all of the rest of us please do the same. We
do need to examine this in detail and have a FULL understanding not only of
the theory but the actuality of the legal and accounting situation from
which it arises. That is not fully clear to me yet.and may not have been
fully clear even to all members of the BOD. They probably relied on the
advice of their CPA's and attorneys on this one. AOBA is and will always be
a work in progress just as our whole industry is. So doing what is best for
it and through it is also an art and requires careful thought and
consultation with the professionals in various areas.
It would have been better if there had been much more "during the
discussion" Blasts to membership.but that is hindsight and is a learning
process with some practical limitations in common sense applications.
Let us let this matter rest for a while so that we can carefully think it
over, develop more and better information, and take a very careful,
thoughtful and "ruminative" look at it in a month or two. I am carefully
withholding all judgment at this point for very sound reasons.this is like
the middle of the trial when the jury is told NOT to DISCUSS; and NOT to
make JUDGMENTS YET!!!!
Let us please PLEASE, do the same! I know we will need to revisit this
when more information has been developed.but not now. Let us not argue over
how to discuss.it does not work!
This is too important to become rancorous or divided among ourselves
needlessly. Whether a member or not, this is industry business and can
affect everyone.we need to think it over very carefully. IF we learn to
discuss this and other industry challenges better, more openly,
resourcefully and more thoughtfully; who knows, today's non-member may
become tomorrow's wiling member of AOBA. So far as I know, every human
entity ever created is both flawed and a work in progress. Our job as humans
is, just as with our own selves, to discern the problems and then discern
how to fix them and make the entity or person more perfect. That is what we
are chaotically trying to accomplish here. Don't lose sight of the real
goal!

You know Libby,
Despite things I had heard in hushed voices and yes, rumor, I always
had respect for you. I supported you and the other farms affected by
the LOL disaster. I have since read that the valuation of many animals
was, well, inaccurate. However, I still boycott all LOL products and
always will, and encourage others whether they are alpaca breeders or
not, to do the same.
I have not made up any accusations about anyone. I said that this new
development with AOBA and its subsidiary stinks and I do think it
spells disaster for the industry, or at least small farms' ability to
participate in AOBA programs. I truly and desperately hope this does
not happen. And I think it is incumbent on all AOBA members to demand
more accountability from the BOD and more control of the organization.
It has been said and I have never seen an instance where it is not true
that "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." Think of all the news
stories we've heard in business. No one thought Ken Lay would do the
things he and his cronies did. No one thought John and Timothy Rigas
would do the things they did. No one thought Mike Safley would divert
leads for his own benefit while he was on the AOBA BOD, but he did. No
one thought Anthony Stachowski wold attept to fraudulently register a
huarizo as a suri llama but he did. Shall I go on?
