Re: [AlpacaTalk] best Fencing

Hi Amy
I use 4x2 no climb horse fence. I get it at tsc. The problem with the 4 rail is not so much keeping alpacas in as keeping preditors out.
as far as stalls go we use gates or panels between them. that way I can adjust the size as needed. if I have several females due I put them together. as we are weaning then i might another pen for them. as far as birthing goes any clean pen will do. it really depends on the time of year, weather and temp. you can email me directly if you want. I have been doing this for 6 years and we have around 70 alpacas, 3llamas and a camel. We had 19 crias this year. no question is stupid. I remember when i got started. keep asking our experience can save you money. scott

I am new to alpacas. I havent even bought one yet! Still learning and
getting ideas.

I am planning on a total of only 5-8 alpacas. I have a lovely 2 acre
mini-pasture with small pond.

What is the best fencing for them? I currently breed horses and have
all 4 rail wooden oak fences. The mini-pasture has no fence yet.

I would also like to add a shed or stalls to the barn. The barn is my
husbands auto-shop for his collection. There is 42' off the back wall.
I was planning to add stalls and put the foals in this mini-pasture
with a shed row of stalls off the 42' (which would be (4) 10x14 stalls.
But I am not finding anything that supports that alpacas want stalls. I
would imagine for birthing a stall would be ideal??? What size??? What
is best??
