[AlpacaTalk] Alpaca Blanket Project update

Hi everyone,
The donations of fiber for the Alpaca Blanket Project has been
continually coming in to our farm. Thank you everyone!!! It has been
extremely heartwarming. I will try to update the supporters section
of the Blanket Project on our website this weekend. About 10% of the
total fiber needed for the first run has been received with another
55% pledged. Carol and I will be attending the fiber class in Canada
at the end of February through the beginning of March of 2008 as part
of or end of the effort needed for this project. We figure we will
each be sorting/grading about 450-500 blankets for the first run. Wow!
Lots of work, but it is as promised.
The ability to bring this venue to the American alpaca farmer for the
use of our fleece is thanks enough for us for our time and expense.
We really appreciate your willingness to donate your fiber for the
first run or two prior to the time (hopefully within 1 1/2 years) when
we will be able to offer both an American-made product from American
alpaca fleece, but also be able to pay a reasonable amount for our
hard-earned fleece. (Oh yes-we will be able to offer the product at
cost plus 3% to those donating to the first run-there should be aroung
600-650 blankets available for purchase from the first run).
I have worked almost 4 years bringing this opportunity to the alpaca
community and it is incredible to me how many supportive emails, phone
calls and letters we receive. Thank you all. Look for an ad in the
next Alpaca magazine that refers to the blanket project (thanks to one
of the supporters of this project).

We still need more prime (preferably clean) blankets to bring the
first run to reality. You can send them to us at:

Also, it looks like the sale of our (Elderberry Creek Alpacas) alpaca
product business may happen soon. We recently placed our alpaca
product business (the largest alpaca product store in the Pacific
Northwest) up for sale or trade. The business valuation came in at
$60-80,000. Net profit last year was over $20k. Inventory at cost is
currently around $21k. If sold by end of year, we will accept $32k
cash. The reason we will take so little is due to my poor health and
also because of the immense amount of time that we need to spend on
the Blanket Project but can not until we sell out alpaca product
business. We are so committed to the Blanket Project that we will
take much less than current value for the product business that we
have invested years of our lives making into a sound and profitable
venture. However, it is only for a quick sale that we will give the
alpaca product away for such a low price. And, this is only because
we need to immediately spend time on the Blanket Project that we are
willing to take this reduced amount for the business.

Happy Holidays everyone!! We welcome your comments. We are here to help!
