Re: [AlpacaTalk] More writer questions
Hi Marie,
I would have her do a quick pick up of poop on her daily feed trips, and a more?thorough cleaning weekly - if the pasture isn't really big with just a few animals on it, the piles would multiply and grow.? Some look preggo months ahead of time.? I have one girl who is due in Sept and I could see movement back in May.? I have another who I sent to be re-bred in June because she looked so svelte, but when she was ultrasounded, found that the breeding done last Fall was still there - she also is due in Sept.
Here is a great web site explaining everthing from the initial carding of the wool through to the spinning.

For vets, usually there are some large animal vets around who are willing to learn.? Where are you locating your heroine at?? If she is in a state with a veterinary teaching hospital (ie vet school), usually emergencies etc go there.? I go months without needing a vet - just depends on how they are doing and what little emergencies come up, so I would think she could get by without a vet for a few months.

Ok.. I have a depressed heroine, it's summer, the pasture and barn are set
up. Can I have her go out once and day and give them some feed, and clean up
once a week, and leave the alpacas alone, without seeming abusive to the
alpacas? Remember, she doesn't know that much.
Also, what would she need to clean and spin the fiber? Any product websites
would be great.
How long before an alpaca looks pregnant?
How do you find a vet, what do you look for in a vet?
Could she deal with the alpacas for about 2-3 months without vets or
registering them anywhere?
