[AlpacaTalk] Re: Profits
This is not an easy question to answer. How many alpaca are you
planning on purchasing and how many babies will you have each year?
You must understand that even with the absolute best of breedings you
can have not such good quality babies, it happens.
I have been in the business for five years and had nothing but boys
but I'm into the fiber so even thought I was greatly disappointed, I
have something I need them for, their fiber.
I was a knitter and crocheter before purchasing alpacas and really
got into it more for the animal sales than the fiber side. I have
totally regrouped my business plan and have decided that there is
just as much profit in processing the fiber for people.
Had I invested $100,000, or half of what I have spent on alpacas, in
a mini-mill, I would have probably realized a profit quicker by now.
It all depends on how much you have available to market your farm and
your animals too.
How many shows you attend to promote your farm will make a difference
too. There's so many variables.
