Yes, I did write to Montana State about their testing services, and I
was told that they did take samples from the public. I told them I was
an alpaca breeder and that many other alpaca breeders were looking for
alternatives to the current providers....

I just received this email from Brenda at MSU:

So unfortunately, MSU is not available to us, and the fee of $15 per
sample for Ian Watt's OFDA 2000 test is outrageous, in my opinion. The
OFDA 2000 does not measure the percentage of medullated fibers as the
OFDA 100 does. Yocom-McColl is charging $9.50 per sample for the OFDA
100, and still only $7.50 per sample for the Sirolan test.

If you are a member of the Ideal Alpaca Community, apparently there is
a big combined testing result for the same $7.50 per sample. I don't
know all the details of that.
