[Alpacasite] Re: Older females

I know of a farm that had an alpaca give birth when she was around
22 years old. She was an import and wasn't very sure of her age, but
everyone agreed that she was at least 20 when she gave birth,
guesstimating around 22. After that, she was retired. With our
better feeding and whatnot in the US than in Peru, alpacas may live
longer than expected, and therefore be able to have longer
production records. As long as all is well with her, I would guess
that she would have about 5-6 more years of birthing left in her.
And then, you can still have fleece from her to use for quilt
batting, pillow stuffing and if it's still good, then other stuff as
well.

milk machine, has easy births, and has never had birthing problems.
