[Alpacasite] Re: Detecting Genetic Collagen Ear Defect
Jeff,
This response almost sounds too simple -- but in reality, it just
feels like a thick ear. In most that I've felt, the thickness
begins about half-way down the ear and varies in thickness. I've
seen ear canal openings that you couldn't even see into with a pen
light. A normal ear would flex easily and has a outer ear opening
that may have lumps and bumps along the way - but there is a
definite opening - one you could easily fit an average sized small
finger into.
And there are some breeders that aren't afraid to publically discuss
this defect. Check out this web site - under "Comments," which I
found easily after doing a Dogpile search.

Perhaps you could give them a call for more info and advice?
Best of luck to you --
Warmest Regards,
Lisa
